I am helping a friend try to fix his washing machine it was working
fine but not heating so found a replacement thermostat and fitted it
in before this it was washing in cold water perfectly ok, fitted new
TS and connected and nothing found out it could be door catch so
replaced door catch,.. door catch seems to be working ie it clicks
when the machine is switched on then normally the water enters but now
still nothing if l switch off timer then the door wont open (normal)
after a minute or two the door clicks and you can open however that's
all it does

Any suggestions

1. Retrace steps. If it worked immediatley prior to the thermostat
replacement, look for loose cables in the vicinity.

2. Replace the old thermostat in exactly the same way it came out and
see if the new fault goes.

3. Admit defeat, out of warranty washers tend to develop multiple
terminal faults at the end of their life expectancy. The engineering
seems pretty good now, everything fails on schedule.

[Door switches are simple to test with a DMM BTW, I assume you have
the use of one if you diagnosed the thermostat problem?].
